a day at the park

A few days after Christmas we drove down to Southern Utah. Todd was even able to escape for a few days and come with us. We spent a few days in Hurricane and then a few days in Las Vegas, where we  rang in the new year with barfing kids, besides that it was a great trip and went by way too fast!

Christmas 2012

This was our first time spending Christmas at home without family and it was a little sad, but we survived. Evee and Owen  must have made it onto the good list this year because Santa spoiled them rotten.  Evee's favorite presents were a soft toy deer(it's her favorite animal right now), easy bake oven, razor scooter, Dr. Mommy doll. Owen's favorites were a balance bike, cars racing tracks, marble maze, and hex bugs. Todd suprised me with slippers and a philosophy gift set, and Evee and Owen gave Todd a Nordstrom gift card.

Halloween 2012

Playing a little blog catch up....Here are a few pics from Halloween.

We had a good Halloween, we truck or treated with our ward a few days before Halloween and then on Halloween Todd was able to get off for a few hours and we went trick or treating in a neighorhood around us. Evee and Owen got way more candy that they needed and we polished off the last of it in there count down to Christmas bags!

NYC picture overload

This summer when we decided to take a last minute trip to New York to see Todd I had such mixed feeling, we had been just 8 months before that and all I could remember was how hard it was with kids. Now looking back I am so glad that we went. It was such a fun trip. I love New York and I feel like I now know the city pretty well after having to navigate the subways by myself for a week. Todd was at work till 5pm  everyday so the kids and I would get out and go exploring in the morning and then we would meet up with Todd after work and go do more sightseeing.  Here is a list of the highlights. Going to Coney Island. Natural History Museum. chocolate cookies from Max Brennan. shopping at Joe Fresh. Swedish Marionette theater with Karina and her kids. Watching the Olympic opening ceremony at Fred and Karina's. Belvedere Tower in Central park. eating at Shake Shack(our favorite NYC burger joint introduced to us by Todd's sister Anne), multiple ice cream cones from Mr. Softee trucks. Staten Island Ferry. visiting almost every park in lower Manhattan.  and my most favorite was going to Mary Poppins. I had never been to a Broadway play before and I loved every second of it. Todd also got to see Wicked and he said that he liked it better than Mary Poppins. I thought the whole production was so amazing I really can't even imagine anything better but it is also the only Broadway I have ever seen.

the last 4 months

I better start off by apologizing for saying at the end of my last post which was 4 months ago "more pictures coming soon". In my vocabulary "soon" means 4 months:)  I think for a second I had forgot that I was getting ready to move, planning 2 birthday parties and preparing to be homeless for the summer. It was a crazy summer to say the least, so here are the last 4 months in a nutshell.

We crammed in as much Disneyland as we could while we were still in LA and still had passes. In all the times we had been, I had never had Evee and Owen's picture taken with Mickey or Minnie, so on one of our last trips there we waited in the ridiculously long lines for a picture.
We are really going to miss Disneyland. We like that place a lot, in fact we like it so much we went there 46 times in 2 years, It's true! I looked in up on my Disneyland passholder account and  and I just about died, we are serious Disneyland nerds and I am okay with that.

Because we went to Disneyland so much, there was  a lot of site seeing that we never did in LA, so we crammed that in too. Turns out LA has some awesome kids museums.

For Owen's 3rd birthday, which was the beginning of May, we did a monster party. It was a ton of  fun.

 Evee graduated Preschool!

Todd graduated with his MBA! Todd didn't walk at his high school or undergrad graduation so I am happy he decided  to this time. It was a big day.  Todd's parent's came for the graduation and it was awesome to have them there to help us celebrate. While I am on the topic of Todd's accomplishments he also passed the last of the CFA tests this summer which he has been taking for 3 years!

A few days after Todd graduated we packed all of our stuff up into a storage pod and went to Hurricane. It was a really stressful few weeks because we needed to find a place in SF before Todd moved to NYC for the summer for training. So we ended up making a really fast trip to the bay area, which was a total nightmare, but it all worked out in the end.

Evee, Owen and I spent most of July in Hurricane at my parents. My sisters were all there for a lot of the time so it was fun to hang out with them and Evee and Owen had some serious cousin bonding time, mainly at the swimming pool.

One morning while we were there. We started to panic because all of the sudden all the kids had disappeared and we couldn't find them anywhere. They were in my parents bath tub with the ipad! thankful the bathtub didn't have water in it.

While we were in Hurricane I threw Evee an early birthday party since her actual birthday was right after we were moving to SF and I knew it would be crazy. Evee is a funny kid. She went back and forth for awhile trying to decide what kind of birthday party she wanted, tea party or star wars party. I think her choice is obvious.

We also got to meet up with some of the Pettingill side cousins at the Veyo pool. They live in Seattle and we don't get to see them much so it was fun that our paths collided in Southern Utah.

We ended up taking a last minute trip to see Todd in NYC. The original plan was for him to fly into Vegas for the weekend and we were going to hang out with him there, but a few days before we ended booking us plane tickets out there instead. Todd had a studio apt near Wall St. So we were able to stay with him for a little over a week.

Right after we got back from NYC we moved to our new place in the bay area. We got really lucky finding a place to live. We are in a really small community and it's gorgeous. Our condo is surrounded by red woods! Todd's commute is less that 30 minutes and we are in  one of the best school districts in the state.

When we moved Todd flew back for less that 48hrs to help with the move. We knew this was how we had to do it and I knew it was going to be really hard moving to a new place without Todd, but even though I had prepared myself, it was still even harder than I had imagined.  I don't deal with change that well and doing it all on my own was a little overwhelming.

Evee started kindergarten the middle of August and she was really excited the night before but that morning was a whole different story. Evee is not a morning person, just like her mom. She cried cause she didn't want to get out of bed. She cried cause she didn't want me to do her hair. She cried cause she didn't want to wear her new shoes. Basically it was a whole lot of crying and after I dropped her off I cried too and not because I was sad she was starting kindergarten but because it was really stressful getting her out the door and I have to do it M-F for the next 10 months! Sad, I know. Things have gotten a little better thankfully.

Todd is back now and he started work offically last week. His hours are just as crazy as we imagined. He had been getting home in between 11pm-1am. We are definitely still adjusting to the area and to Todd's work schedule but everyday I feel a little more settled.  I am not going to make any promises but my goal is to not go another 4 months without updating my blog:)

Whoa, that was a long post!

cruise-part 1

The end of April we went on a 7 night Mexican Riviera cruise to celebrate Todd almost being done with his MBA program and also as a last hoorah before Todd sells his soul to his job. I think it was the perfect vacation for us, mainly because of the kids camp. It was REALLY nice being able to drop Evee and Owen off for a few hours every day and have some one else entertain them plus  Evee and Owen both LOVED the camp.  I got to read/lay out, and Todd and I were even able to eat dinner a few nights without them, which is my definition of an awesome vacation.

When we were booking our cruise it wasn't much more to upgrade to a balcony room and I am so glad that we did. It was fun sitting out on the balcony in the mornings as the boat was coming into the ports and we also ended up spending a lot of time in our room since Owen still takes pretty long naps.

One of the formal nights Owen ended up coming with us because he had just woken up and was grumpy and didn't want to go to the kids camp.

We ate breakfast in our room most mornings cause it was just easier with Evee and Owen and they loved eating their froot loops and watching toons.

Our first day in Cabo San Lucas we had no idea what to do. We hadn't booked any excursions or really even looked into anything, so we talked to a few  people trying to sell excursions but we still couldn't decide what we wanted to do so Todd and I took turns getting a massage and then we walked around some of the shops.  The second day we were in Cabo I didn't bring my camera because Todd had convinced me that it was going get stolen. Which looking back I kind of think is funny because Cabo is probably more safe that Los Angeles. Anyways, we ended up going to a timeshare presentation because we wanted to use the resort's pool and private beach, which was a HUGE mistake, it was probably one of the nicest resorts that I have ever been to and the Evee and Owen had so much fun at the pool, but the timeshare presentation was beyond frustrating. They were dead set on selling us a timeshare and they were not taking no for an answer. We learned out lesson and we will never got to a time share presentation EVER again.

part 2 coming soon!

Easter egg hunt

For Easter We made a quick weekend trip to Southern Utah.  Almost all of my family was in town  and we really wanted to do an Easter egg hunt with all the grand kids but the only time that we were all actually together to do it was on Saturday evening right before the sun was setting. My sister had the genius idea of instead of filling the eggs with candy, raiding the quarter toy machines at Wal Mart, and we also filled them with small party favor toys. The kids loved it and there were no sugar highs involved!
